Project Borealis Shows Fan Sequel Gameplay to Half Life 2 Episode 2
New gameplay footage from Project Borealis includes improved graphics and the result of using a new physics engine. Project Borealis is a fan-made game based on the Half Life 2 Episode 3 script.
This is the fifth video update published by the makers of the project. Among other things, the update shows a snow level in which the player walks around. The images show new gameplay functionality and the result of PhysX’s move to the “Unreal Chaos Physics” engine.
The images also show the use of wind, which causes lighter objects to be blown over or carried along. Furthermore, the iconic Gravity Gun has received a number of updates. For example, the weapon can now pick up multiple objects at the same time and fire a tornado of objects. The Headcrab enemy has also been given an improved design, among other things.
The team uses Steam Audio to produce reverberation, environmental isolation and spatial sound. The team has a series of concept art images and screenshots on its website.
The story of Project Borealis is based on the Half Life 2 Episode 3 script written by former Valve writer Marc Laidlaw. The project has been in production since 2017.
In 2015, another fan also released his own version of the episode 2 sequel. The development of this took two years, he says, and gives the player a new Gravity Gun, which allows him to fall from great heights and make big jumps.
