A Scottish programmer has managed to run Windows 95 in the browser. The programmer is 19 years old and was therefore born after the release of the operating system. She uses Emscripts to run the operating system.

No plugins are required to boot Windows 95. Simply opening the site in a modern browser is enough to boot the operating system. Thanks to Emscripten it is possible to convert C++ code to Javascript and the site uses that to conjure up the interface. In addition to Emscripts, Andrea Faulds uses Dosbox and Em-Dosbox to run the site.

Many elements work, although Internet Explorer 3.0 crashes the site, writes The Next Web. Faulds is not an unknown programmer. She is best known for her work on PHP, which she retired last year. Faulds is 19 years old and studying German at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland.
