Private Division and Weta Workshop Working on Game in Middle-earth Universe
Weta Workshop is working on a new game set in JRR Tolkien’s Middle-earth universe. The game will be published by Take-Two industry Private Division and is expected in fiscal year 2024. Further details are not yet known.
Publisher Private Division announces that the Middle-earth game is currently in early development and expected from parent company Take-Two in fiscal 2024. That fiscal year runs from April 2023 to March 2024. The game is being made by Weta Workshop, which is known for its special effects work on the The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film trilogies. The company has had a games division since 2014, which is now working on a game set in author JRR Tolkien’s universe.
Middle-earth Enterprises has licensed the literary works of the series to Weta Workshop, allowing that company “with the utmost creative freedom to interpret the underlying lore of the books.” “It’s a privilege to create a new game set in Middle-earth, especially one that’s so different from what fans have played before,” said Amie Wolken, head of Weta’s Interactive division. Further details about the upcoming title are not yet known.
