Prison Architect gets multiplayer
Prison simulation game Prison Architect is getting a multiplayer mode. An early alpha version of it can be tried through the game’s beta on Steam. It’s about cooperative multiplayer, with up to eight players.
The developers of the game are announcing the multiplayer mode in a video and on Steam. Players who want to try it can do so by signing up for beta versions on Steam. It is still an early version of the multiplayer mode and there is a lot that does not work.
Multiplayer works in sandbox mode. Players can start an online session that is open to all interested parties, or protected by a password. Players see each other in the game as a cursor and it can also be seen which material or object the players have selected or want to build.
According to the makers, Prison Architect was never intended to have multiplayer and that brings some challenges. However, Introversion, the studio behind the game, wants to add more functionality and thus create a fully-fledged multiplayer mode.
Prison Architect is a popular indie game that came out in 2015, after five years in development. The game is still regularly updated with new functionality. After its release on PC, the game also came to consoles, iOS, and Android. The Nintendo Switch version came out in August. Multiplayer is currently only in the beta version on Steam.
