Prime Video has Chromecast support and YouTube comes out for Fire TV
Amazon’s Prime Video app now has support for Google’s Chromecast and more TVs with Android TV as the operating system are getting the Prime Video app. Also, YouTube is now available for Amazon Fire TV devices.
In April, Google and Amazon promised Chromecast support for Prime Video, as well as a YouTube app for Fire TV hardware. Those promises have now been fulfilled, Google reports in a blog. Chromecast support is present in the latest version of the Prime Video app for Android and iOS, which works on devices running Android 5.0 or iOS 10.1 or later.
There were already devices with Android TV running the Prime Video app, but there will be many more soon, says Google. In the coming time, TVs and set-top boxes with Google’s software will have access to the app to watch Amazon’s streaming service.
At the same time, a YouTube app for Amazon Fire TV devices has been released. The app is available worldwide for various versions of the Fire TV Stick and for TVs with Fire TV software built in. There will also be apps for YouTube TV and YouTube Kids later this year.
Amazon and Google have clashed in the past about the use of each other’s services. In 2017, Google blocked the use of YouTube on Amazon devices because the online department store used its own app for that. Later, the web version was also blocked due to disagreements. Google also blamed Amazon for not working with the Prime Video service with Google Cast.
