Price increases have hardly any effect on Telenet customer numbers
Telenet has seen an increase in the number of internet and digital TV customers in the fourth quarter of 2014, despite the actions that angry subscribers had started against the provider’s price increases. Telenet also managed to attract more mobile callers.
According to Telenet’s quarterly figures, the number of digital TV subscribers has increased by 11,100, a growth of 6 percent compared to the comparable quarter in 2013. The number of subscribers with an internet subscription with the Flemish cable company also grew by 17,800, bringing Telenet into total 1,530,600 broadband subscribers. The number of triple-play customers increased by 10 percent to more than 1 million. In addition, Telenet reports that the average revenue per customer has increased from EUR 48.70 per month to EUR 50.30 per month.
Telenet also managed to attract more customers as a virtual provider on the Mobistar network. In the past quarter, 26,000 mobile callers are said to have switched to a Telenet mobile subscription. In total, the cable company has almost 900,000 mobile subscribers.
Despite opposition from angry customers against an announced price increase, in which a promotional site was even set up, these initiatives seem to have little effect on Telenet’s results for the time being: despite a slight decrease in the total number of customer relationships of 1 percent, this group of customers increased by 3 percent. more services. The decrease can be attributed to the departure of analog TV customers. In addition, Telenet’s turnover also increased by 4 percent in the fourth quarter.
