Presentation of AMD Ryzen 2000 processors at 12nm appears online
AMD’s full presentation of the upcoming Ryzen processors codenamed Pinnacle Ridge has appeared online. These are models such as the Ryzen 7 2700X, which are made at 12nm and equipped with Zen+ cores.
The presentation was put online by Spanish website El Chapuzas Informatico. Many details match previously leaked information; it appears that AMD is initially coming with four new processors: the Ryzen 7 2700X and 2700, and the Ryzen 5 2600X and 2600. The CPUs are made at 12nm and have Zen+ cores.
The new top model, the Ryzen 7 2700X, has eight cores with SMT and a clock speed of 3.7GHz, with a maximum turbo of 4.35GHz. The tdp is 105 watts, which is slightly more than the Ryzen 7 1700X with a tdp of 95 watts. AMD gives the processor a suggested retail price of $ 369 and supplies it with a Wraith Prism cooler that is equipped with RGB LEDs.
AMD seems to leave room for an even higher clocked model, as there is no successor for the Ryzen 7 1800X yet. The new processors are compatible with current AM4 motherboards with a 300-series chipset. However, a bios update is required and according to AMD, motherboard manufacturers will come with the necessary updates in March.
The second generation Ryzen processors have XFR 2, which allows the clock speed to be further increased depending on the temperature. In combination with a new motherboard with 400-series chipset, Precision Boost Overdrive is also available, which should increase the clock speed even more. This functionality does not work on current 300 series motherboards and is only available on the X processors, which have a higher TDP.
Along with the processors, manufacturers will announce motherboards with 400-series chipsets. Initially, it concerns X470 motherboards. B450 variants are likely to follow later. The slides state that the information will be officially released on 15 March.
