Premier League footballers take part in FIFA 20 virtual tournament
The top English football league, the Premier League, hosts a virtual FIFA 20 football tournament. A number of big names from the football competition participate in this. The prize money goes to a good cause.
The so-called ePremiere League Invitational starts on Tuesday and matches will take place daily through Saturday, the day of the finals. The semi-finals and final will be broadcast live on the commercial British channel Sky Sports, but those interested can also watch all matches via the Premier League channels on Twitch and YouTube and the Football Daily YouTube channel.
A number of well-known Premier League footballers are taking part in the virtual tournament, such as Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling, Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Norwich City’s Todd Cantwell. The players represent their clubs and will compete against each other.
Not only professional football players participate. For example, Manchester United is represented by musician Tom Grennan. Manchester Evening News speculates that Manchester United will not be represented by a professional footballer of their own, as the club has signed a deal with Konami for the competitive game eFootball PES 2020.
The Premier League has long hosted the ePremier League, an e-sports competition in which the best British FIFA players participate. However, the current season of this competition has been halted due to the corona pandemic. The prize money from the ePremiere League Invitational will go to a fund for the National Health Service, the British health insurance system.
