Portal 2 will not get a multiplayer mode

Portal 2 will not have a multiplayer mode. According to the developers, such a mode would be too chaotic in practice and therefore unplayable. There will be a coop mode in the puzzle game from Valve.

Erik Wolpaw, writer involved in Portal 2 development, say in an interview with 1UP that Valve’s development team intended to include a “sporty” multiplayer mode in the puzzle game. However, after the construction of a test environment, it would soon have become apparent that such a mode was not playable, because a playing session would end in chaotic scenes in no time.

According to Wolpaw, the coop mode, in which two players have to solve the puzzles together, turned out to work much better in the gameplay of Portal 2. This mode will therefore be included in the final game. Portal 2 will be released on February 9, 2011 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
