Portal 2 co-author Jay Pinkerton is back at Valve after a year off
Jay Pinkerton, who left Valve in June last year, has returned to the company. On the developer’s website, he is listed as ‘other expert’. Pinkerton previously worked at Valve as a writer on Team Fortress 2 and Portal 2.
Valve confirms to PC Gamer that Pinkerton is back in service. A Reddit user noted on Sunday that the writer is mentioned again in the list of contributors on the Valve website. It is not clear why Pinkerton is returning to Valve after leaving last year. It is also not known what he is currently working on at the developer.
In recent years, all the writers who worked on the games that made Valve fame have left the studio. Last year, Chet Faliszek left the company after twelve years. He worked on the Half-Life 2 expansions, Portal 1 and 2, and the Left 4 Dead games. Erik Wolpaw, who wrote lyrics together with Faliszek, also left last year. Mark Laidlaw, who was responsible for the story and dialogue of Half-Life and Half-Life 2, left Valve in 2016.
As far as we know, Valve is currently working on three VR games, details of which are not yet known. In addition, the studio is working on Artifact, a digital card game that should be released this year.
