Porsche to double production of its first all-electric car
Porsche reportedly wants to double its production of the Taycan-ev to 40,000 units a year. The automaker would have been encouraged by the number of reservations. This makes the model one of the largest Porsches in terms of number.
In Norway, Porsche had 3,000 reservations for the Taycan, while it normally sells 300 cars a year in that market. Such figures were the motivation for the increase. According to the German Automobilwoche, the number of forty thousand copies per year for a high-end automaker like Porsche is very large.
The car will have a range of more than four hundred kilometers and an 800V charging system. This results in a charging speed of 350 kilowatts, which should be able to charge the car to eighty percent in fifteen minutes, according to Electrek. In comparison: a Tesla takes about forty minutes with a Supercharger. The cheapest Model S, which is closest to the intended price of the Porsche, has a larger range with about 540 kilometers.
The final design of the Taycan should be unveiled in September and production should begin by the end of the year, Electrek writes. The car should have a starting price of eighty thousand to ninety thousand dollars.
For the production of the car, Porsche has hired 1,200 new employees and invested six billion euros. Porsche reported last year that it expects half of all delivered cars to be partially or fully electric by 2025.
