Populous will be released on DS in early 2009

A version of the classic Populous, the god game from 1989, is released for the Nintendo DS. The new version will be available in the first quarter of 2009. The original version was created by Peter Molyneux, the man behind Fable II.

The handy version of Populous will appear on the European market in the first quarter of 2009. The game is published by the small Rising Star Games. The new version features a single player campaign where the player can choose from five element-based gods, each bringing their own wonders. The game can also be played in multiplayer, where four players can compete against each other. Players can bombard each other with tidal waves, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

The original version, which appeared in 1989 on the PC, the Atari ST and the Amiga, was published by Electronic Arts, but this publisher has nothing to do with the new version. Also Peter Molyneux, who conceived the game, is not involved in the development of the DS version.
