Polish Market Watchdog Investigates Cyberpunk 2077 Situation
CD Projekt Red is under investigation by the Polish market watchdog UOKiK. The studio must, among other things, account for the problems surrounding the game Cyberpunk 2077. The studio can be fined a maximum of ten percent of its annual turnover.
The UOKiK has said it has approached CD Projekt Red because of the ‘confusion’ about the release of Cyberpunk 2077, writes the Polish newspaper Dziennik Gazeta Prawna. The market watchdog has, among other things, asked for an explanation for the technical problems of the game. The UOKiK wants to know what steps the studio has taken to solve these problems.
“We will look at how the developer is making updates and fixes to make the game work on different consoles, as well as how the company is dealing with people who are unhappy with their purchase because they can’t play the game on their hardware,” said one spokesman for the Polish daily.
The Polish market watchdog will await the explanation from CD Projekt Red and then take further steps. For example, the UOKiK can impose a fine of up to ten percent of CD Projekt Red’s annual turnover. The market watchdog may also ask CDPR to provide digital bonuses to gamers who have purchased the game on a last-gen console.
Cyberpunk 2077 was released on December 10 and was subsequently criticized for the bugs and technical issues in the game. The game suffers from bugs on all platforms, but the problems are greatest on the regular PS4 and Xbox One. CD Projekt Red has since been sued by investors for alleged deception regarding Cyberpunk 2077. The developer is said to have not been honest about the state of the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the role-playing game.
