Polaroid launches two Android phones

Former camera maker Polaroid has announced two Android phones at CES, the Snap and the Power. The Snap comes with three different screen sizes, namely 5″, 5.5″ and 6″. The Power has a 6″ screen.

The latter has a screen with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, a 64-bit processor with eight cores, 3GB of ram, a battery of 3000mAh and an external battery pack of 8000mAh. The internal storage memory of 32GB is expandable with a microSD card. The rear camera consists of an unspecified 13-megapixel sensor with two LED flashes. The front camera has an 8-megapixel camera and flash. It all runs on Android 5.1.1, but an upgrade to 6.0 is planned.

Regardless of size, the Snap smartphones have a screen with a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels and are controlled by a quad-core processor. The Snaps have 1GB or 2GB ram and 8GB or 16GB internal storage memory, expandable with a microSD card. Like the Power, the rear camera has a 13-megapixel sensor and 5 on the front. The front camera also has a flash. The Snap runs on Android Lollipop and should be upgraded to Android 6.0.

Prices for the Snaps will range from $130 to $180 and should be available in the US from February, the Power should fetch $250 and hit the market “sometime in the spring.” Polaroid also released a camera called Snap+ at CES with an instant print capability. This is the successor to the Snap camera that the company is already selling. This should not be confused with the smartphones to be released.

Polaroid experimented with Android more than two years ago, but then it was about a camera with interchangeable lenses. The company had to withdraw this camera from the market because it infringed Nikon’s patents.
