Poland target of Russian cyber attack according to Polish deputy prime minister
According to Polish Deputy Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski, Russia has carried out a cyber attack on Poland. The deputy prime minister says it is a large-scale attack by Russian hackers on the Polish government.
In a statement, Kaczynski wrote that the Polish government was the target of a large-scale cyber attack last week. Police are currently still investigating the incident. The government has not released any further details about the attack.
According to the deputy prime minister, the analysis by the country’s secret service shows that “it is clear that the cyber attack was carried out from Russian territory”. He doesn’t write exactly what this shows.
Politico reports that more than 30 parliamentarians, officials and journalists were the target of the attack. The attack is said to have started in September last year. According to the source, the Polish secret service traced the attack to Russia, because the modus operandi is said to be very similar to that of other Russian hacker groups.
The Polish government has not announced whether further steps will be taken. An investigation into the cyber attack is currently underway.
