Nintendo announced an Expansion Pass for Pokémon Sword and Shield during a Direct presentation. Game Freak is working on two different DLC packs that will add new stories and new and old Pokémon. The Expansion Pass costs 30 euros.

The Pokémon Company announced during a Nintendo Direct presentation that it is working on the Isle of Armor and the Crown Tundra expansions, in which players will visit the areas of the same name. These DLC packs are collectively part of the Expansion Pass. The Isle of Armor will be released in June, with the Crown Tundra DLC coming in the fall. In addition, the developer is coming with free updates, including one that adds Pokémon Home integration to the game.

According to game director Shigeru Ohmori, the Isle of Armor is inspired by the Isle of Man, an island off the United Kingdom. The Crown Tundra is a snowy area based on Scotland. Both areas feature story expansions and new Legendary Pokémon. In addition, the Expansion Pass includes new story missions, outfits and Gigantamax forms, ‘normal’ Pokémon and other features. Also, the Expansion Pass contains more than 200 old Pokémon that were previously dropped from the National Dex. Players without this Expansion Pass can also get these Pokémon by trading them or importing them from Pokémon Home. Players can get started with the expansions once they reach the Wild Area in the game.

The Pokémon Company used to sometimes release multiple games set in the same region. The developer states that this will not happen again in the future. Instead, it will focus on expanding current games. Of course, the company can come up with completely new Pokémon games in the future.

Pokémon Sword and Shield each get a separate Expansion Pass with some minor differences. The Expansion Pass can be pre-ordered for 30 euros. Players who do so will receive an in-game Pikachu and Eevee uniform. In addition, all Pokémon Sword and Shield players will receive a free Galarian Slowpoke today. Players who want to evolve this Pokémon must purchase the Expansion Pass.
