Plextor has released a new series of NVME SSDs under the name M9Pe. The SSDs are equipped with Toshiba’s 3D TLC NAND memory chips that consist of 64 layers. There are variants of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB.

Plextor sells the M9Pe SSDs as a PCI-e plug-in card, as an m2-2280 model and as an m2-2280 variant with heat spreader. The PCI-e variant has a housing with LEDs on the top. Except for the form factor, the specifications of these different models are the same. All SSDs use the Marvell 88SS1093 controller, which was introduced way back in 2014. The largest model has 1GB lpddr3 cache, the other two have 512MB lpddr3.

According to Plextor, the SSDs achieve sequential read and write speeds of up to 3200MB/s and 2100MB/s; that applies to the 1TB model. The M9Pe SSDs are the successors of the M8Pe models that Plextor released about two years ago. Tom’s Hardware has published a review of the new M9Pe SSDs.

Plextor has not disclosed MSRP. American web stores offer the 256GB, 512GB and 1TB SSDs for approximately $122, $221 and $427 respectively. Converted to euros with VAT, those amounts would be approximately the same in euros.
