Plex tests increased standard remote streaming quality to 12Mb/s in 1080p

Plex is testing an increased default remote streaming bitrate of 12Mb/s in 1080p resolution in TestFlight version 8.24 for iOS. So far, this is still 4Mb/s in 720p in the release version of the streaming service.

The small adjustment was made by a beta tester spotted and relates to users streaming content from a private server. So far, Plex always defaults to 4Mb/s in 720p and users have to manually change this setting. This will probably soon become standard 12Mb/s in 1080p, although the small change has not yet been officially announced by the streaming service.

Plex previously increased the standard streaming bitrate of content on the internet to the highest possible bitrate, taking into account the quality of the content and the internet connection. It is not clear why this does not also apply to remote streaming.
