Plex Lets Android Users Without Accounts Watch Ads For Free
Plex’s new Android app provides access to a selection of free movies and TV shows that don’t require login or account creation. The offer does contain advertisements. With iOS and the web version, users still need to create an account.
Plex has released version 8.2.0 of its Android app and new to the release is the ability to play videos from Plex Movies & TV without the need for an account, according to the release notes on Google Play. When opening the app for the first time, users are immediately presented with an overview of the available free videos.
At the top of the menu is a message that users can create an account. However, users can watch videos directly if they accept the terms. Plex shows ads before and during the videos and there is no opt-out for this for free users. It is not possible to skip ads.
Plex started offering free movies and series with ads late last year. The display is comparable to streaming services such as Netflix and Disney+. The offer mainly consists of older titles as far as films are concerned. In the United States, Plex has an agreement with Warner Bros., which broadens the range there.
In the iOS version and via the Plex website, it is also possible to watch free movies and series with ads, but you still need to create an account. It is not known if and when watching without an account will come to those platforms.
