Plex has updated its Windows app from version 2.1.4.29 to 3.0.31. With the update, it is the first Universal Windows App of the media player for Windows to be made available. This first uwp edition is only suitable for desktop and tablet.

A Mobile version should follow soon, but when that is is not yet known, writes roguecode from the Plex Dev Team on the Plex forum. In addition to the native Windows 10 app, which has been completely built from the ground up to be able to use the benefits of uwp, the interface has also been addressed.

The new look should scale to different screen sizes, and when the Mobile version comes out, it will also work with Continuum, allowing the app to function as a full desktop application when the mobile device is attached to a large monitor. Continuum is Microsoft’s dedicated system and works on the Lumia 950 series, Acer Liquid Jade Primo, and the upcoming HP Elite x3, among others.

Furthermore, Cortana support has been added and support for Plex Hubs and Discovery. The new version is immediately available in the Windows Store. Plex Media Server is an open source media server for Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, OS X and various NAS devices. The software can serve content to clients on the same machine, within the local network or over the Internet.
