Plex Introduces Arcade Subscription With 27 Atari Games For $5 A Month
Media server software maker and movie streaming service Plex has introduced Arcade, a game streaming service featuring 27 Atari games. It concerns Atari 2600 and Atari 7800 games and ten arcade games. Subscribers can use a bluetooth controller and add their own ROMs.
For Arcade, Plex has partnered with Parsec, a streaming service that allows streaming up to 60fps and UHD, and Atari. Atari lets Plex use multiple retro games, such as Centipede, Lunar Lander, and Motor Psycho. To use Arcade, users must set up a Plex Media Server, and that server must run on a Windows or macOS device. Parsec does not currently support other operating systems, Plex writes. Users can then stream the games to mobile phones and TVs running Android, iOS and tvOS devices, and through the Chrome browser. Plex says it wants to relax these restrictions.
Plex Arcade is now available for EUR 4.10 per month. Plex Pass subscribers pay the equivalent of 2.46 euros per month. In addition, there is a seven-day free trial. The company emphasizes that Arcade is a ‘sort of internal Kickstarter-like project’, which can quickly be pulled out if there are not enough subscribers.
