Plex function indicates on which streaming services movies and series can be watched
Plex will get a Discover tab, which will bundle which streaming services a TV series or movie can be viewed on. That information is localized to the user’s region, according to Plex, and includes Netflix, Disney+, and HBO Max integrations.
discover is according to Plex a tab that should ‘bundle all watchlists and recommendations from different streaming services in one system’. Users can indicate in Discover which series and movies they want to watch and what they like, as well as which streaming services they are subscribed to. Plex then shows users which series and movies they can watch and on which streaming service this can be done.
Users will also be notified if a movie they’ve placed on their watchlist becomes available on a streaming service. This is also possible with films and TV series that have not yet appeared. Plex gives the example of Jurassic World Dominion, a movie coming out in a few months. With Discover, users can see when the film is in theaters, when it is available for rent, and when it is available to watch via streaming services. Discover also contains trailers for films and series, and information about, for example, the genre and the actors.
The arrival of the Discover feature was found in the apk of the Android app in January. At the time, it was suspected that it would be possible to watch streams from third-party services such as Netflix and Disney+ in Plex. This does not appear to be possible at the moment. Users can navigate to streaming services within Plex with a button, if the streaming service allows this.
Plex says Discover works with hundreds of streaming services, including Amazon Prime, Paramount+, Funimation, and Hulu. Users can also see if a series or movie is in their private collection. Discover is available as a beta within Plex starting Tuesday and is free to use on Roku, Apple TV+, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, iOS, Android, smart TVs, consoles and the web version, among others.
