Sony will release its PlayStation handheld for streaming PS5 games later this year. The handheld now also has an official name: the PlayStation Portal. The device will cost 220 euros upon release, the manufacturer reports.

Sony already announced the PlayStation Portal this summer under the name Project Q, but… now shares the release period and suggested retail price. The device has an 8″ LCD with 1080p resolution and a refresh rate of 60Hz. That screen is flanked by a controller that looks a lot like the DualSense. The device has the same controller features as the DualSense, such as adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. The Portal also has a 3.5mm jack for audio.

The device can stream games via Wi-Fi from a connected PlayStation 5 console. For example, users can play PS5 games in another room or without using the TV. The handheld does not support mobile internet connectivity such as 5G and cannot play PS VR2 games or stream games via the PlayStation Plus Premium cloud service.

The PlayStation Portal is Sony’s first handheld that is fully focused on Remote Play, a feature that Sony previously released. This allows console owners to stream PS4 and PS5 games to their smartphone. It is not known exactly when the Portal will be released, but it will happen this year. The device costs 220 euros; Sony previously said that the handheld would cost less than $300.
