PlayStation 4 version of Fallout 4 performs significantly better after update
Bethesda has released update 1.02 for the PlayStation 4 version of Fallout 4. An analysis shows that the patch provides significantly better performance. Although the frame rate sometimes drops to 20fps, it often remains stable at 30fps.
The console version of Fallout 4 suffered from significant performance issues at launch. Both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions regularly dropped the frame rate to values of 20 fps or even lower. With the update to version 1.02, which is 512MB in size, there will in any case be a significant improvement on Sony’s console, according to an analysis by Digital Foundry. Whether the patch will bring similar gains on the Xbox One is not yet clear, as the update has not yet been released for Microsoft’s console.
Digital Foundry focuses its test on the Corvega factory in the game. Before the patch, the frame rate there dropped to 16fps in some situations, and during factory shootings, the PlayStation 4 was almost never able to achieve a stable 30fps. After the update, drops to 20fps are still visible, but the performance is significantly better than before the patch. The performance has also improved visibly compared to the patch with version number 1.01. Gamers who play the game on Xbox One can expect the update in the coming days.
