PlayStation 4 update 6.02 supposedly fixes bootloop due to unknown character
Sony has released firmware version 6.02 for the PlayStation 4. Although Sony doesn’t mention it, it’s presumably a fix for the issue where consoles can go into a bootloop due to an unknown character in a private message.
Sony does not mention the problem in the description of the update. In it, the PlayStation manufacturer only reports that the new software ‘improves system performance’. Interestingly, a Sony account on Twitter redirects users who “for some reason” can’t use their console to a link to download the update. It is possible to put the update on a USB stick and thus provide the console with the new software.
Last weekend, it appeared that PlayStation 4 consoles can go into a bootloop if a private message is opened containing a special character that cannot be displayed. Sony has not officially commented on that issue. On Monday, the Ask PlayStation UK account on Twitter announced that the problem was solved, but pointed to workarounds such as removing the malicious message via the PS Mobile app and restoring the console via Safe Mode.
