The upcoming firmware update for the PlayStation 4 will introduce the ability to stream via Twitch in 1080p resolution and at 60fps. This option will only be available for the PlayStation 4 Pro. Currently the limit is 720p at 60fps.

Eurogamer reports this update based on a copy of version 5.0 of the firmware for the PlayStation 4, which the website claims to own the release notes. Sony has not yet disclosed any details about the new firmware.

In addition to this improved streaming quality, the update also adds the ability to track other players’ accounts, as is already possible on the Xbox One. At the moment, this is only possible on the PlayStation with verified accounts, which in practice mainly concerns official game accounts and the accounts of individual developers. The update also ensures that notifications are visible from the shortcut menu, and the status of uploads and downloads can be viewed here.

Other innovations include a change in the structure of master accounts and sub accounts. Sub accounts are linked to master accounts and are mainly intended for children. The update creates the possibility to open multiple adult accounts within a family account, whereby restrictions for children can be set per account. A request can also be sent to another adult’s master account on another PlayStation 4 console so that this person can be ‘added’ to the requester’s family.
