PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds gets first person servers on August 3
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will be getting special servers on August 3 where players can only use the first-person perspective. In addition, there will be three new crates, all of which contain items inspired by the Battle Royale movie.
The patch notes state that the first person mode is coming to European and US servers first for the solo and duo game modes. After that all it will be expanded to other regions. For now, the first-person functionality is not available for squads. The patch also adds a so-called FOV slider, which allows players to adjust their field of view. In addition, a new rifle is introduced.
The patch also introduces some new equipment options. Three new crates will be available, all containing clothing, gear and cosmetics inspired by the Battle Royale movie. Two crates are free to open. The third is a so-called Gamescom Invitational Crate, which can only be opened with a key, which must be purchased for 2.5 dollars. The money raised will be used to host an event of the game at Gamescom, including prize money and charitable donations.
At the moment it is possible to switch between first and third person in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. In the third-person perspective, the camera can be controlled so that, for example, you can look around and over walls, without the player having to reveal his position. This advantage disappears with the new servers, making the game more difficult. Players have the option to choose servers with the first person gameplay, but are not forced to do so.
