Players PC version GTA Online complain about unfair bans
Players of the PC version of GTA Online are complaining about being unfairly banned. They are banned from the game for thirty days; perhaps due to a flaw in Rockstar’s anti-cheat system. The developer has not yet responded to the complaints.
The thirty-day bans have been handed out since last week. Exactly how many players have been affected is unknown, but according to a topic on the GTA Online reddit, there has been an increase in the number of people complaining about receiving unfair bans on reddit, social media and forums. For example, on the Rockstar forum there is a complaint from a new player who has been banned.
Rockstar made a change to the GTA Tunables file last week, including an adjustment for a new game mode, as well as changing code related to an exploit used to sell cars. The reddit users state that this change is probably the cause of the bans.
The developer has not yet responded to the complaints and appears to be ignoring questions from players about it. Rockstar also did not answer questions from game website Polygon. On Sunday, the GTA Tunables file is said to have been modified again, possibly indicating that Rockstar is aware of the problem and is trying to fix it.
According to GTA Online players who can see which players are flagged as unauthorized Mud by Rockstar with their own adjustments, Sunday’s adjustment had no effect. In the game, most of the players would be classified as cheaters.
The issues seem to coincide with the Southern San Andreas Super Sport Series update, which Rockstar added to the game last week. The update includes the new Hotring Circuit mode and five new cars.
