Players don’t need to have Pokémon Go app open to hatch eggs

It will soon no longer be necessary to leave the Pokémon Go app open on a smartphone for the game to detect the distance users are walking. This makes it possible to hatch eggs.

The new feature is called Adventure Sync and, according to developer Niantic, syncs Pokémon Go with Google Fit on an Android smartphone and Health on an iPhone, provided the device releases that data. This makes it possible to count all steps that users take in the game for rewards such as hatching eggs and getting Candy from a Buddy.

In addition, users get a weekly summary of movement they have done in the game. The developer says they took inspiration from the feature, because many users say they get more exercise by getting rewards in the game. The developer also hints that there will be more rewards in the game that can be obtained by walking outside. Adventure Sync will appear in the game soon, but Niantic isn’t saying exactly when it will happen.
