Play Anywhere for games on both Windows and Xbox launches September 13
Microsoft has announced that Xbox Play Anywhere will launch on September 13. Play Anywhere means that certain games will work on both Xbox One and Windows 10, provided they are purchased digitally.
During the E3 games show, Microsoft announced Xbox Play Anywhere and also announced which games will be the first to be covered by this program. This concerns new games, including Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, ReCore, Halo Wars 2 and Crackdown 3.
Gamers who purchase these games digitally on Xbox One or via Windows 10 can play the game on both platforms. Play Anywhere also makes multiplayer possible between the different platforms, although this will not apply to all games. Furthermore, progress is saved in the cloud, so that players can continue playing on their PC where they left off on their Xbox.
Xbox Play Anywhere will be activated after the arrival of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update and the related Summer Update for Xbox One. Microsoft has now confirmed to Polygon that the feature will be active from September 13. That is the date on which ReCore comes out and the availability of the feature is probably equivalent to the availability of the first game that offers Play Anywhere support.
Not all games will have Xbox Play Anywhere support. This will probably depend in particular on the willingness of game developers and publishers. Games that support the feature are identified with a logo in the Windows and Xbox Store. Currently, it mainly concerns games from Microsoft’s first party studios.
