MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will be released for PC on September 10, 2019. Initially, the game was supposed to be released this year, but the release date was moved to 2019 last June. At that time, no exact release date was known.

The release date can be seen in a trailer shot for MechCon 2018 in Vancouver, which takes place December 1–3. Piranha Games has been developing MechWarrior 5 since 2016. The game is based on Unreal Engine 4 and is being made by a team separate from MechWarrior Online, the free-to-play multiplayer game from 2013.

In June the CEO of Piranha games, Russ Bollock, indicated that the developer wanted to postpone the release of the game until 2019. The CEO cites dissatisfaction with the quality of the game from the team as the main reason for the delay. Bollock promised via Twitter that he would present a concrete appearance date during MechCon in December.

No new single player game from the MechWarrior series has been released since 2001. The last one was MechWarrior 4: Vengeance and it was released for PC at the time. In addition, the game had an arcade version.
