Pine64 has started shipping the PineBook Pro again. The open source laptop was unavailable for a long time due to problems in the Chinese supply lines, but now that these have been resolved, the company is selling the laptops again.

The Pinebook Pro with ANSI format is back as available in Pine64’s webshop. The open source laptop was not available for a long time, but can now be ordered again. Dutch buyers can also purchase the laptop, with delivery costs of 44 dollars. The laptop itself costs $ 219, but VAT and customs clearance costs are added for European buyers. The laptop has been delivered again since this week.

Pine64 had reduced shipments of much of its hardware and in some cases, such as the Pinebook Pro, shut it down completely. The laptop was first available for sale in October 2019, but due to the corona crisis and the associated supply problems in Shenzhen, China, the delivery of the laptops was halted for a long time.

The Pinebook Pro is an ‘open source laptop’ with hardware, the firmware of which is publicly available and can be modified. The laptop runs on an Arm-soc with two Cortex A72 cores at 1.8GHz and four Cortex A53 cores at 1.4GHz. The laptop also has 4GB of Lpddr4 memory, an eMMC 5.0 storage drive and a 14.1-inch Full HD IPS panel. Pine64 warns that the laptop is “not a replacement for an x86 laptop” and that the model is especially suited for modders in the Linux and BSD community.
