Pine64 has announced the PineNote, a 10.1″ e-ink note taking and reading device. It is the manufacturer’s first to make a device with an electronic ink screen.

The PineNote has a capacitive glass layer over the electronic ink screen for touch input and a layer to register the input of pens, Pine64 says. The screen itself has a 4:3 ratio and a resolution of 1404×1872 pixels, good for a pixel density of 227ppi at the diagonal of 10.1″. It is a screen of 15.4×20.5cm.

The processor is a Rockchip RK3566, a 22nm chip with four ARM Cortex A55 cores and an ARM Mali G52 GPU. Pine64 adds 4GB of Lpddr4 memory and 128GB of eMMC storage. This should make it one of the most powerful devices with an e-ink screen on the market, the company claims.

Pine64 warns users that when released, the PineNote is primarily intended for developers. “Mostly expect to write software, rather than take notes,” the company said. The PineNote should be released later this year for $399.
