Pilots ‘draw’ Boeing 747 on the radar with Boeing 747

More and more airlines are saying goodbye to their Boeing 747s, including the Israeli El Al. The airliner did that in a special way; by drawing a Boeing 747 on the radar during the last flight with the aircraft.

The pilots of El Al made an extensive detour with their 747-400 during flight LY1747 from Tel Aviv to Rome on Sunday. They flew over the Mediterranean for an hour and three quarters of an hour in order to leave the contours of the aircraft on the radar. The result of the aircraft drawing can be seen on Flightradar24.

Airline El Al had operated Boeing 747s since 1971. The last 747 flight was operated with the 747 4X-ELC, an aircraft that the airline has operated on passenger flights since 1995. The Boeing 747, also known as the Jumbo Jet, has been around since 1969. Until the arrival of the Airbus A380 in 2007, the 747 was the largest passenger aircraft in the world.
