Pictures show Meizu smartphone with thin bezels
Meizu has shown in an internal presentation images of a phone that has very thin screen edges on all four sides, so that the screen covers the entire front of the device.
Android Pure has found the presentation on Weibo. The Meizu Pro 7 has a 5.62″ screen with a resolution of 2160×1080 pixels. This gives the screen a ratio of 2:1. According to Meizu, the super-amoled screen can display 95 percent of the NTSC color gamut. the screen appears to be rounded, corresponding to the rounding of the device corners. The dimensions of the device are 133x70x6,5mm.
Because the screen covers the entire front of the device, there is no room for elements that are processed in the bezels above and below the screen in other phones, such as a front camera, speakers and various sensors. Meizu seems to want to solve this in a way similar to how Xiaomi is doing it with the Mi Mix. The sensors and the loudspeaker are hidden behind the screen. However, the front camera of that device is hidden in the edge below the screen. With the Pro 7, the 8-megapixel front camera at the top of the device seems to be able to fold out and the fingerprint scanner is integrated into the screen.
The Pro 7 runs on version 5.1 of Meizu’s Flyme skin. It is not entirely clear on which Android version the skin is based. Presumably it’s Marshmallow, but the company also has phones with version 5.x of Flyme that still run on Lollipop. Android Nougat is also not excluded.
Meizu promises in the presentation that the device can be fully charged in forty minutes by means of mCharge 4.0. The charger supplies a voltage of 12 volts and a maximum current of 3 amps. Google indicated last week that the company with Android 7 may want to counter the proliferation of fast charging standards by blocking all standards except USB-PD.
The device comes in variants with 64GB and 128GB storage. Both variants have 6GB of RAM, a Kirin 960-soc and a Sony IMX386 sensor for the rear camera with a resolution of 12 megapixels. The prices are 2699 and 3099 yuan, which converted and with VAT is 443 and 509 euros respectively.
The Meizu Pro 7 is very similar to the Xiaomi Mi Mix, which was announced in October. Both phones have a screen that covers almost the entire front of the phone and is rounded at the corners. The Mi Mix does have a larger ‘chin’, which offers space for a front camera.
