Photos show Panasonic CM10 camera phone with large sensor
Panasonic seems to want to release a successor to its CM1 camera phone. Photos have leaked of the CM10, which is similar in appearance to the existing model with large 1 “sensor. The official announcement is due to follow on Tuesday, January 19.
Digicame info has published the photos of the Panasonic CM10. The housing of the new model looks similar to the CM1, which Panasonic introduced in 2014. The Leica lens is also identical to that of the existing model, which indicates that the manufacturer uses at least the same sensor format. The Japanese website regularly shows product photos just before the official introduction of cameras.
The CM10 probably has new hardware on board compared to the CM1. The current model has a Snapdragon 801 soc, 2GB ram and 16GB storage. According to the rumor site, the new device runs on Android 5.0 and will be on the market in Japan on February 25. It is not yet clear whether Panasonic will also release the smartphone in other parts of the world; predecessor CM1 was never officially released in the Benelux.
The Panasonic CM1 is a smartphone with a 1″ sensor with a 20-megapixel resolution. That sensor size is about four times the size of the 1/2.3″ sensor size, which is currently used in many high-end smartphones. A larger sensor is able to capture more light, resulting in better image quality and, above all, better low-light performance. As far as photo quality is concerned, the Panasonic CM1 is therefore seen as the best camera phone.
Panasonic announced the CM1 at the Photokina photo fair in September 2014. The device came on the market in 2015, but the CM1 was not officially released in the Benelux. The phone did appear in stores in Germany and some web shops offer the CM1 here. The suggested retail price of the device is 899 euros. It is not yet known what the new CM10 will cost.
