Photos show Nexus 6P-looking Huawei smartphone with presumably 5.2 “screen
Huawei is working on a phone with probably a 5.2 “screen with a back that is strikingly similar to that of the Nexus 6P that appeared last year. The Chinese approval authority Tenaa published images of the phone, but no specs.
Tenaa calls the phone CAZ-AL10 and CAZ-AL00 and except for the images, the inspection body does not provide any details, unlike previous inspections. There is, however, a lot to see from the images. For example, the same design is clearly visible on the back as the Nexus 6P, with the characteristic black strip behind which the camera is hidden in an otherwise metal housing. A fingerprint scanner is also visible on the back.
The size of the phone can be deduced from the size of the Huawei logo on the front. On this year’s P9 and last year’s Mate 8, the logo is exactly the same size, around 13mm wide. If so, the phone measures 14.5×7.1cm and has a 5.2″ screen.
It is unlikely to be a new Nexus. The case does not show the Nexus logo and HTC will most likely take over the production of this year’s Nexus phones. Some media refer to the name Mate S2, a successor to last year’s Mate S. That is not likely, however: Huawei previously said that the Mate S was an experiment and would not get a successor.
Huawei has announced that it will present new products at the IFA electronics fair in Berlin in two weeks. It is the first opportunity where the Chinese manufacturer could present this device.
