HP would be about to release a new MediaSmart Server, according to leaked photos. Unlike its larger brothers EX475 and EX485, the LX195 does not have externally accessible hard disk trays.

The end of March dove there are already some blurry pictures of a new offshoot of the MediaSmart Server strain, from which it could be deduced that HP’s new storage system will have a storage capacity of 640GB. The new pictures, originating from the Spanish website Gizmologia, give a somewhat clearer picture of HP’s new member. A search on HP’s site confirms the existence of the LX195, but the support page for the device is not populated.

Considering the size of the rear connectors on the LX195, it’s a relatively small device that might house one or two hard drives. Unlike HP’s earlier MediaSmart Server and Media Vault products, these are not externally accessible via slide-out trays. Instead, two Phillips head screws must be unscrewed to gain access to the interior. HP’s small storage server differs from other nas solutions by using Windows Home Server as the operating system.

At the back you can see connections for four times USB, an Ethernet port and for the power supply. In addition to the HP logo and the brand name, the front of the fairly sleekly designed LX195 housing only contains three blue illuminated buttons. It is not yet known when the MediaSmart Server LX195 will be announced and whether that will be the only version. Prices are of course not yet known.

Update: the photos have not been leaked, but have been on an HP press site since April 1, as PcDealer rightly pointed out. The LX195 is a model from the LX190 series, but nothing is known about other models yet.
