Photos and video show PS4 redesign with smaller size – Update
Pictures of a new PlayStation 4 console surfaced on Sunday in various places on the internet. The game console looks smaller and thinner compared to the original. At the back, it can be seen that there is no longer an optical audio output.
It is not clear whether this is a similarly performing slim refresh of the console or the extra powerful ‘Neo’ that Sony would be working on. The images first appeared with an ad on auction site GumTree and later they were collected from there and other sources in a Neogaf topic. What is striking about the photos is that this console has a completely matte finish. The first versions of the PlayStation 4 still partly had a glossy layer, since the CUH-1200 revision at the end of 2015 the entire console is matte. Furthermore, the shape of the console has basically remained the same.
Many details are not provided by the people who post the photos. According to the packaging, it would be a 500GB version in ‘jet black’, the same color as the original. The GumTree advertiser wanted to see £295 for the console, which amounts to £341. However, because an advertiser is free to set its own price, this means nothing.
The American newspaper The Wall Street Journal is said to have been in contact with anonymous sources who also confirmed the news. They say that Sony will unveil both the extra thin PlayStation and the extra powerful Neo at the press conference on September 7th. In addition, the thin PlayStation 4 shown below would also be in stores next month. Sony has not commented on the story.
Update 6.10 pm: Eurogamer paid a visit to the person who owns the new version of the PlayStation 4 and made a video of the console being started up.
