Photo shows possible engineering sample AMD EPYC Genoa-X CPU with 3D V-Cache
An engineering sample of an AMD EPYC Genoa-X CPU has surfaced on a Chinese website. This server CPU is based on Zen 4 and has 3D V-Cache. AMD previously confirmed the existence of Genoa-X, but no release date has been announced yet.
The unreleased processor recently went on sale on Chinese platform Goofish, noted Twitter user Olrak29_. Unreleased hardware and engineering samples appear more often on that platform for second-hand products, also writes VideoCardz. This is a sample of the EPYC 9684X CPU, about which details have already been circulated. The chip would have 96 cores and more than 1GB of L3 cache. The CPU is similar in design to the current Genoa processors in the EPYC 9004 series.
AMD Genoa-X will be the successor to Milan-X and will get 3D V-Cache. This stacks an additional 64MB of L3 cache on top of each ccd. Genoa has a maximum of twelve such CCDs and would receive a maximum of 768 MB of additional cache. This will be available in addition to the 384MB L3 cache Genoa comes with as standard, for a total of 1152MB L3 cache.
The arrival of AMD’s EPYC Genoa-X server processors with 3D V-Cache has already been confirmed. The CPUs are expected to appear later this year, although AMD has not yet announced a specific release date. The company also did not share specs of specific models.
