An employee of the German Zeiss has posted a photo on Twitter of the back of a new, yet to be released Nokia phone. He wrote that it is the Nokia 7.2. Based on the photo, the smartphone will have three cameras on the back.

Joachim Kuss has his message on Twitter already removed. In the message, he posted a photo of the back of a phone. It shows a round, slightly raised camera island with three cameras and an LED flash, with a round fingerprint scanner below. With the photo, Kuss wrote that it is the Nokia 7.2. According to him, manufacturer HMD demonstrated the device to some journalists and media on Tuesday, prior to its release in September.

Kuss also said in his post that he was “a little overwhelmed” by what is possible with today’s mobile photo and videography. Zeiss has been working with manufacturer HMD for the cameras of Nokia phones for some time, so Kuss is not entirely objective and he did not give any further details. Presumably, the Nokia 7.2 will have a primary camera, a camera with a wide-angle lens and a depth sensor.

A recent rumor from NokiaPowerUser, which was based on renders a reader had based on covers posted early online, mentioned a 48-megapixel camera and a lens with a 120-degree field of view. Photos of an unnamed Nokia phone also appeared online in July, showing that the resolution of one of the cameras can be set to a maximum of 48 megapixels. The smartphone in those photos looks quite similar to the phone in Kuss’s photo.

The Nokia 7.2 should be the successor to the Nokia 7.1, which came out in October last year. It has two cameras on the back with resolutions of 12 and 5 megapixels respectively. This device has a Snapdragon 636 as a soc, while the successor is rumored to get a Snapdragon 660. Perhaps more will become clear on September 5; on the day before the start of the IFA in Berlin, HMD Global is holding an event, which may also see announcements of the Nokia 6.2 and 5.2.
