Photo of devkit PlayStation 5 appears on Twitter
A photo of a PlayStation 5 devkit has leaked onto the internet. It shows two devkits, along with possibly a DualShock 5 controller. Earlier, sketches and renders of the devkits came out, but now for the first time the real console.
The dev kits became posted on Twitter by @Alcoholicaust. He goes on to say that they come from a developer who apparently finds the non-disclosure agreement on these developer devices “uninteresting.” Tom Warren of The Verge tells that the design is such that they can be easily stacked and still ventilate well.
A devkit is a variant of the console that is used to develop games and applications. Both hardware and software, these devices have more options than what consumers get at home. Devkits, as the name suggests, are for developers only.
The dev kits may include the new DualShock 5 controllers, but it’s hard to see. Instead of L2 and R2, these have adaptive triggers, which give more or less resistance depending on game conditions. The DS5 also receives haptic feedback, which gives more precisely programmable vibrations than the vibration motor of the DS4.
The Sony PlayStation 5 will be released during the holidays next year. The console gets a Ryzen octacore processor, a Navi GPU with support for ray tracing and a fast SSD. Sony also confirms that the PlayStation 5 will use optical discs for games. These are Blu-ray discs that fit 100GB. The console can also be used as a UHD Blu-ray player. The final design of the consumer version of the PS5 and its price are not yet known.
