Photo of alleged Intel Alder Lake CPU appears online

A photo of an alleged Intel Alder Lake processor has surfaced online. With dimensions of 37.5x45mm, the CPU is larger than most current Intel CPUs and has 1700 contact points, for placement in the new lga1700 socket.

The image is at VideoCardz and according to the site it is an engineering sample. Only the bottom of the processor can be seen, there are no further details such as specifications. Earlier this year, documentation about the lga1700 socket appeared on Intel’s website, including references to Alder Lake.

Intel makes the Alder Lake processors on a 10nm process, according to a leaked slide from the manufacturer. It would be processors with a big.Little configuration, with eight large Golden Cove cores and eight low-power Gracemont cores. The Alder Lake platform for desktop processors would also receive DDR5 support and possibly support for PCIe 5.0 as well.

Intel is rumored to be releasing its Alder Lake generation sometime next year. That will probably be at the earliest at the end of 2021, in the first quarter the Rocket Lake generation will be released on the lga1200 socket. These are 14nm processors with presumably a new microarchitecture.
