Microsoft has announced that a major update to the photo app in Windows 11 is on the way. The app that allows Windows users to view images by default is getting a new look and new features for organizing and backing up photos.

Next to an new design the photo app gets some new features compared to the current version. The app gets a OneDrive link, with which photos can be stored directly in Microsoft’s cloud. The photo app will also show how much space is left in OneDrive. In addition, it should be easier to import photos from an external device to Windows via the app and there will be an improved ‘reminders’ function, with highlights from, for example, holidays.

Microsoft will be the first to make the update available through the Windows Insider Channel. In the first instance, it gives access to a select part of the users in the Insider Channel. After the first rounds of feedback, everyone within the Insider Channel will have access. It is not yet known when the update will be rolled out to all Windows 11 users.

Earlier this week, the first major version update was released for Windows 11, which included a refresh of the taskbar and task manager. Update 22H2 is now available for all Windows 11 users.
