Philips to partner with MIT
Philips has entered into a collaboration agreement with the American Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The two will research health technology and digital lighting systems.
As a result of the agreement, Philips will move its research center for the North American market from Briarcliff Manor, New York, to Cambridge, Massachusetts, home of MIT. The research center of Philips and MIT will receive a research budget of 25 million dollars, approximately 22.5 million euros.
The collaboration between the electronics manufacturer and the prestigious institute will run for five years. Philips says it wants to take advantage of the technical knowledge available in and around the MIT campus and use it through the Philips Research department to innovate in the two primary core areas on which the group focuses: medical technology and digital lighting systems.
