Philips Lighting changes its name to Signify

Philips Lighting is going to change its name to Signify. According to the company, the name reflects the strategic vision. The manufacturer of Philips Hue, among others, had until October 2018 to come up with a different name than Philips Lighting.

According to Philips Lighting, the name Signify should indicate that ‘light becomes an intelligent language that gives meaning and connects’. In addition to Signify, the lighting manufacturer will continue to bear the Philips name. The company is allowed to do so under a license agreement until 2030. At the end of April last year, parent company Royal Philips sold shares in Philips Lighting, losing its majority stake.

As part of the license agreement to use the Philips Lighting name, the company will change the name within eighteen months of parent company Philips losing its majority stake. That would in principle give the lighting manufacturer until October.

Philips Lighting has 32,000 employees worldwide and is headquartered in Eindhoven.
