Philips introduces health wearable
Philips has released the Health Watch, a wearable that focuses on improving or maintaining health. The release is part of a series of new electronic health products that work in conjunction with an app.
The Philips Health Watch has an E-Ink screen with Gorilla Glass. It is not a touchscreen, but the screen edge is touch sensitive. In addition, the watch is waterproof. The wearable serves as a heart rate monitor and pedometer and can also keep statistics on the number of calories burned and the amount of sleep of the wearer.
The wearable is part of the Personal Health Program of Philips, which also consists of a blood pressure monitor, scale and ear thermometer. These products can communicate with the Health Watch and must be used in combination with the HealthSuite Health app for iOS and Android. This app gives users personalized advice and insight into their health, based on the data from the four products. In addition, the app allows users to set certain health goals, such as reducing weight.
The Health Watch will be available in the US in August for $250. The wearable would also be released in Europe for 250 euros, but it is not known whether that will also be in August.
