Petroglyph Studios and Funcom Reveal RTS Game Conan Unconquered
Petroglyph Games is working on an RTS game called Conan Unconquered. The game will feature base building, but will also be fast paced. Players must defend themselves against enemies that attack in waves. The game can also be played in co-op.
Base building involves mining resources, researching new technologies, and recruiting new troops for the defense army. Despite the genre being real-time strategy, the game can be paused to give orders, even when playing in co-op. In co-op, players share a base, which they build and defend together. Levels are randomly generated and also offer the opportunity to be explored. This entails risks, but the landscapes contain great treasures as well as great dangers.
Players can produce basic units like foot soldiers, but units like cavalry, wizards and siege weapons soon follow. There are also so-called elite units, which are stronger than their normal counterparts, and heroes, such as Conan himself. Players can also place traps, for example with cauldrons of hot oil.
In addition to hordes of enemies, players will face problems such as base fires and accumulating dead units that eventually form pockets of disease. With the latter, a wizard unit like the Necromancer can take advantage of it.
Petroglyph is working with publisher Funcom on Conan Unconquered. The game is set to release in Q2 2019, according to the Steam store page. At the same time, Petroglyph Games is working on remasters of the classic Command & Conquer games Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert. The studio has many employees who previously worked on Command & Conquer games at Westwood Studios.
