Periscope now also allows users without a Twitter account to log in
Twitter’s subsidiary Periscope now also allows users to log in to its video service without a Twitter account. Then users can enter a phone number to create an account. As a result, even people without Twitter can stream videos via the service.
The move is notable because Twitter acquired Periscope even before the app came out. Logging in without a Twitter account is part of a series of functionality that Periscope is adding, including being able to change the profile picture and showing notifications if people streaming have blocked a user.
Periscope is an app that came out two months ago that allows users to stream live video. The app followed shortly after Meerkat’s, which was developed for the same purpose and was a short-lived hype. It is unknown how many users Twitter has with Periscope. For now, the app only works on iOS.
