Pebble will start shipping the first Pebble Time smartwatches on Wednesday. The company has announced this in an update to the first batch of buyers. As a result, the smartwatch has suffered some delay.

Production of the Pebble began earlier this month, a week later than planned. The first Pebble Times will be sent on Wednesday, Pebble writes in an update to backers of the Kickstarter project. Earlier this month, Pebble promised that most backers would be able to put their watch on their wrist in May or early June, but that no longer seems feasible.

Although production is now underway, according to Pebble, not enough has been produced yet to be able to process all orders. This is expected to be the case at the end of May, and the waiting backers will receive an invitation to confirm their choice of color and delivery option.

The company warns that there can be ten days between the delivery and the home delivery. Delivery time also depends on the delivery option users have chosen; faster delivery comes with higher costs. By mid-June, Pebble expects to ship all orders and provide buyers with a shipping tracking number.

Pebble also reports that the Time is getting a new app, which is separate from the existing Pebble app. That will continue to exist for older versions of the smartwatch. With the new Pebble app, which can also be used for the Pebble Time Steel, there is no longer a limit to eight applications that can be loaded onto the watch at the same time. Instead, the watch can handle as many apps as it has available storage space.

Pebble does not report anything about the Pebble Time Steel in the update. The more expensive version of Pebble’s new smartwatch is scheduled to ship in July, but it’s unclear whether the company will make it.
